The Centre for Studies and Research in the History of School Architecture (NEPHArqE) was established as a result of the commitment and investment of a diverse group of researchers from various academic levels and backgrounds. These researchers share a common interest in discussing and investigating how school architecture has been conceived and adopted throughout history, using it as a form of discursive language. Since its founding in 2008, NEPHArqE has provided a fertile academic environment for the development of experiences that enhance historical analyses of school space and architecture. These in-depth analyses have produced significant results that are frequently submitted to scientific dissemination outlets, thereby contributing to the advancement of knowledge and elevating the status of architecture as an essential component in educational discourse. The coordination of NEPHArqE is under the leadership of Professor Dr Marcus Levy Bencostta, a faculty member of the Graduate Programme in Education at the Federal University of Paraná, Brazil. The centre not only focuses on academic production but also commits to ensuring that the knowledge developed reaches a broader audience through scientific dissemination, thereby expanding the understanding of the role of school architecture. In this way, NEPHArqE contributes to a greater recognition of the importance of well-designed school spaces in the educational context, promoting debates and studies that encourage improvements in this essential field for the formation of future citizens.
